TAP INTO EMPOWERMENT
LESSONS THAT LAST A LIFETIME.
AMPLIFYING VOICES.
Sisterhood is so special to us. Through our empowerment programming, we are building up the next generation of girls on and off the dance floor. Art saves lives, as it did ours, and by offering healing spaces led by incredibly strong women who are leaders in their fields we lay the groundwork for young women to grow not only their dance skills, but their self-confidence, self-respect, and self-love.
SYNCOPATED LADIES LIVE
TOUR OUTREACH
2023 marked TWENTY YEARS of Syncopated Ladies - we are so energized, and only just getting started! As alumni of the Chloé and Maud Foundation, Syncopated Ladies exemplify the importance of the work we do. As we grow, we are laying the groundwork for the next 100 years of Syncopated Ladies.
Syncopated Ladies Live is our ground-breaking All-Female Tap Dance Tour, making history as the first of its kind. In each city, the Chloé and Maud Foundation gives out free tickets to our community partners, and offers free dance classes, talkbacks, Q&As, and school shows.
Our tour dates offer us the opportunity to connect with new audiences. We are out in the lobby after each show talking and taking pictures with members of the audience, hearing their stories and offering support and encouragement to both young people and their support systems.
Sold out crowds across the country come together to absorb the show's message of empowerment, sisterhood, and infinite possibilities!
Whether in partnership with the theatre in which we're performing or a local dance studio, our tour outreach classes are free to all attendees and open to all ages and abilities. Offering safe spaces for learning and exploration is a major part of our mission, and we are dedicated to never letting finances be an obstacle.
For our performance at the Orpheum Theatre in 2022, we purchased 300 tickets for local dance studios in underserved communities to offer at no cost a theatre experience that the dancers and their families might not otherwise be able to afford.
To close out the first leg of our 2022 tour, we offered a community talk back after our final show in Boise, ID. Young dancers and
entrepreneurs had the opportunity to join us for an intimate conversation, ask for guidance, and pose questions about our beginnings. We offered advice and gave specialized support to attendees.
We had the best time on tour - the energy was higher than we could have dreamed of! After many sold out shows and incredible meet and greets where we had the opportunity to meet audience members who were inspired by our show and message, we came home revitalized and recentered in our purpose. You can't be what you don't see, and we are honored to offer representation to young people all over the country.
THE SECOND BALCONY OF THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE
Believed to be the largest remaining Jim Crow balcony remaining in the South, if not the entire nation.
Syncopated Ladies headlined the Grand Opera House in Macon, GA, which used to be segregated, Black audiences sat on hard, tiny benches in the nosebleeds, behind lighting fixtures and crew work spaces, leaving many unable to see what was happening on stage at all. At our show, little black girls sat in the front row and danced their hearts out.
SYNCOPATED LADIES EMPOWERMENT CAMPS
The Fresh Air Fund is one of our favorite parts of the year - we get to come out to their camp site, breath in the fresh air, and work with some wonderful young ladies. We love coming back and working with these kids; what the Fresh Air Fund offers the community is so important and you can feel the difference that it makes in the young ladies. We see them year to year grow and come into themselves as self-actualized, empowered young women.
TAP INTO SISTERHOOD! We always have such an incredible time with the ladies of the Fresh Air Fund learning about empowerment, community, confidence, and dance! Together, we have an uplifting day of dance classes and the students are given empowerment journals to put their dreams and goals in writing. We discussed actualizing dreams - we are so happy to be in their corner as they strive forward!
We host Syncopated Ladies Bootcamps all over the world — a program dedicated to uplifting and empowering young women with messages of strength and sisterhood.
We love our Syncopated Ladies Empowerment Camps - so much vibrancy, joy, and excellence in the studio! We offer scholarships and internships to students in attendance, and share our mission of self-love, self-confidence, and self-respect.
MORE THAN MOVES
We are ecstatic to share our first guided journal - a twelve week journey into helping readers fortify their minds while dancing! This book offers a framework of what our foundation's programming has been providing since the beginning, making the message we share even more accessible to you people all over the world. Since publishing More Than Moves, we have donated copies (and have had over a hundred sponsored by patrons!) to students in schools and camps across the country.
